In today’s culture, the word postpartum is often automatically linked to the word depression. But the postpartum period is not inherently just one of struggle; it can also be a time of deep healing, growth, and joy. To help shift this narrative, we need more skilled, compassionate postpartum doulas supporting families in their earliest days together.
This training is for anyone who feels called to support new parents during this tender and transformative time. With so many families isolated from their traditional support networks, your presence as a doula can help turn a stressful postpartum experience into one marked by confidence, peace, and connection for both parent/s and baby.
My name is Lesley Everest. As a doula for over three decades, it is my privilege to bring you this live and on-line training, curated from my specializations in somatic therapies, lactation support, infant sleep education, interspiritual ministry, and having built a successful doula business in two cities. Through a trauma-literate lens, this course will help you:
- Understand how birth shapes the postpartum period and how to gently support parents as they process their experience.
- Learn the foundations of coregulation—helping parents and babies attune for optimal emotional and neurological development.
- Practice generative listening, so the parent’s voice and intuition remain central.
- Provide hands-on support for postpartum body comfort and basic feeding (breast/chest/bottle) troubleshooting.
- Explore the spiritual transition into parenthood and how to honor this rite of passage.
- Tune into the “inner baby” of the parent—attending to their own early needs and emotional landscape.
- Support healthy sleep hygiene with evidence-based strategies that work for the whole family.
- Discover nourishing foods, calming scents, and practices that support emotional and physical healing.
- Reflect on your own biases and how to honor diverse family values with respect and care.
- Begin building your postpartum doula practice in a way that is sustainable and aligned with your values.
If you’re ready to make a lasting difference in the lives of new families and help rewrite the story of what postpartum can be, this class is for you
