Birth Doula Training

If you sense that birth doula work is more than a job—that it’s a calling—read on.

Are you ready to pursue a career that blends your passion for meaningful community support with your deep interest in pregnancy and birth?
Do you feel called to be part of a movement that nurtures the conditions for fulfilling birth experiences—by offering evidence-based knowledge, proven comfort techniques, skilled emotional support, and steadfast advocacy for the families you serve?

If so, you’ve come to the right place.

The learning process for doulas is profound and personal. It’s about drawing out and refining the unteachable qualities you already carry—especially if you feel called to the high-intensity, deeply human world of birth support work.

My name is Lesley Everest. I’m the founder of MotherWit Doula Trainings. I’ve been training and mentoring birth and postpartum doulas—and guest lecturing in nursing and medical programs—for over twenty years. With more than three decades of active doula work and the experience of building thriving doula practices in two cities, I bring insights and tools to this training that you won’t find in other courses.

As a longtime somatic therapy practitioner, this training is trauma-informed and nervous system-aware. We focus on supporting families in building the capacity, resilience, and skills they need to approach birth with greater confidence—by connecting to both internal and external resources.

This work is rooted in an understanding of the intersectionality of birth. We explore how to meet the unique needs and uphold the values of every family we serve—always with curiosity, humility, and a mindset of high regard.

A core part of this training is a deep dive into what I call the Three Rs of Doula Work:

  1. Relationship – Secure connection is foundational. It builds the emotional safety essential for an empowering birth.
  2. Respect – For the physiology of birth, our clients’ values, and their unique choices.
  3. Room – Creating, nurturing, and protecting the emotional and physical space within and around the birth giver.

Our trainees are open-hearted individuals who understand that birth is not merely a means to an end—it’s a powerful, story-shaping experience that matters deeply to the personal and cultural narrative of Family.
